Tom Petty Was Planning 'Wildflowers' Tour Before His Death

Tom Petty was planning to tour for his seminal 1994 Wildflowers solo album before his sudden death this October.

The tour was originally planned for this year, but got put on hold so Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers could tour in celebration of their 40th anniversary.

Rolling Stone reports Petty had recruited Norah Jones to help him and his band perform the album in its entirety.

Earlier this year, Petty had said he wanted to release an expanded, two-disc edition of Wildflowers—the way he had originally planned the album.

Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell said Petty had been planning the Wildflowers tour first, but "plans for that somehow evolved into 'It's the 40th year. Let's do this tour first.'"

Petty's manager, Tony Dimitriades said the Wildflowers tour was on the songwriter's mind throughout the 40th anniversary trek. "He asked me to call some people and see if they would come on the road and perform it with him.

Jones "said yes immediately," Dimitriades said.
