Hear Chris Cornell's Mashup of "One" by U2 With "One" by Metallica

In addition to being one of the most talented vocalists and composers of his generation, Chris Cornell was proud of his influences and adept at putting his own spin on his favorite songs.

Cornell's stirring versions of Prince/Sinéad O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U," Led Zeppelin's "Thank You," Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" and Michael Jackson's "Billy Jean" are nearly as popular with his fans as his own Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog classics.

So it's no surprise that when Cornell had the idea to combine the chords of U2's "One" with the lyrics from Metallica's 1988 hit of the same name, the result was stirring, poignant and pulled off like no one but 'The Voice' was capable of doing.

You can listen to it above.

Cornell's "One" is part of the expansive Chris Cornell box set, a retrospective of the late-singer's career including 88 of his greatest performances.

The accompanying 54-page booklet, designed by Pearl Jam's Jeff Ament includes liner notes from Soundgarden's Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron, Pearl Jam's Mike McCready, producer Brendan O'Brien and Cornell himself.

The compilation also comes in an 11-track, single-disc condensed version including career highlights, unreleased songs and covers.
