Ringo Starr, Santana Confirmed For Woodstock Celebration At Original Site

Two Rock and Roll icons will mark the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Woodstock festival at the concert's original site.

The Bethel Woods Center for the Arts announced Thursday that former Beatles drummer Ringo Star and His All Starr Band and Carlos Santana will headline a four-day event August 15 - 18 commemorating the iconic festival.

Bethel Woods will be celebrating Woodstock all summer with events called "A Season of Song and Celebration."

"We are humbled by the interest in the anniversary year, and we realized it was greater than we'd ever dreamed,' Bethel Woods CEO Darlene Fedun said in a statement. "We recognize the importance of this place to so many, and our mission of preservation and interpretation of the 1960s is central to 'A Season of Song and Celebration,' as it provides our guests the opportunity to reflect, to learn and to celebrate the legacy of what occurred here."

Santana himself told Rolling Stone he was thrilled to take part in the anniversary festivities, adding he hopes to celebrate "whoever is still here" from the original festival during his set.

"Santana's going to be the house band, but I want to be able to honor those who are still here and maybe invite rappers like Common or Kendrick Lamar. Santana's very interested... into connecting with people from seven years old to under 33. I don't want to be just like a jukebox in the twilight zone, stuck in the '60s."

Bethel Woods Center for the Arts is advertising a screening of the concert movie Woodstock: The Director's Cut on Aug. 15.

Starr and the Edgar Winter Band will perform Aug. 16.

Santana and the Doobie Brothers will perform on Aug. 17. More acts will be revealed in the coming weeks.

The Bethel Woods concerts are not connected to the Woodstock 50 festival by Woodstock festival co-founder Michael Lang, which is taking place about three hours from Bethel Woods in Watkins, Glen, NY, the same week.
