As any Van Halen fan will tell you, bassist Michael Anthony played a crucial part in taking the band's live sound and studio recordings to the next level.
While Anthony is as reliable a rock bassist as there ever was, it's the brightness and precision of his backing vocals that made him such a secret weapon for Van Halen.
Despite his powerful voice, Anthony has preferred playing a supporting role throughout his career, whether in Van Halen, Chickenfoot or as Sammy Hagar's right-hand man.
That changed, however, during a recent show in Las Vegas with Hagar, in which Anthony sang lead vocals on David Lee Roth-era Van Halen classics, "Runnin' With the Devil" and "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love."
Hagar first indicated that he would sit out the nod to Van Halen's co-founding lineup, but then stepped up to a mic and dutifully provided backing vocals for his longtime bass player.
